There’s nothing like springtime in the Southland. It’s not only one of my favorite Indigo Girls’ songs, but it’s also true. Outdoor 2021 spring events are blossoming everywhere.
When the flowers bloom it’s time to get outside and enjoy some incredible events again. These five are too good to miss. From art to outdoor concerts (hello, Robert Earl Keen!) from Charleston to Atlanta and from the shores of Florida to the hills of Tennessee—2021 events are back, baby!
And the South is leading the way. Here are five outdoor 2021 spring events we can all enjoy.
1. Start to Finish Art & Home Showcase at Ponce City Market
April 2-4, 2021
There’s a whole lotta waaah in this statement, but I miss art.
I was thrilled to see these two artistic endeavors on PCM’s calendar for this weekend and next.
The Print Shop by FreeMarket Gallery will host “Start to Finish,” an interactive art and home showcase in The Plaza at Ponce City Market. It will be stationed along the Atlanta BeltLine’s Eastside Trail and the exhibit will feature artwork by Adelaide Tai and the “start-to-finish process of creating complex, large-format artwork.” Expect art from Yoyo Ferro, Jonny Warren, Aliya Smith, Angie Jezez, Aesek, Chris Veal and more. For the home decor and furnishings lovers, SustainAble Home Goods and The Victorian will also have pieces out available for viewing and snagging up.
2. WITH LOVE – A Solo Art Exhibit by Jeremy Brown at The Plaza at Ponce City Market
May 1-2, 2021
Come out to see Atlanta-based, contemporary visual artist Jeremy Brown. He will hold his first solo exhibition in over five years at The Plaza too.
Titled WITH LOVE, “the collection will include 30+ new, mixed media works exploring the universal concepts of identity, unity, longing and the pursuit of happiness. Brown’s multilayered set includes his signature use of bold colors, loose brushwork and a dynamic blend of actual and implied textures.” I love how his art includes text, which I recently found out comes directly from his personal journals.
3. Robert Earl Keen Outdoor Concert in Charleston
April 10, 2021
Who doesn’t remember spending their college years front row at an REK concert? (I think there are about three or four generations who can say that safely.) Catch the crooner at “Around The Bend – A Socially Distanced Outdoor Concert Series” at The Bend in North Charleston on the banks of the Ashley River. They have 20 acres of green space right on the riverfront.
How much-needed escapism does this sound like right now?
The event planners thought of everything and the entire series has sectioned off squares and limits each square to a maximum of four people from the same party. You can pre-order drinks and have a fully stocked cooler bag waiting for you upon arrival.
4. Deep Healing Woods at Blackberry Farms
May 9-12, 2021
In the Tennessee mountains sits a special healing place called Blackberry Farm. If you haven’t had the pleasure of spending a few days there, this “Deep Healing Woods” event may be the one for you to reconnect with yourself and nature.
This four-day program will be spent under the canopy of the surrounding forest and incorporates hiking, yoga and meditation along with the healing energy of nature. “Time in the forest is proven to decrease stress and heighten mental clarity, offering a sense of renewal that can only come from experiencing the outdoors. Combine that with nourishing group meals and Hope Parks, the Blackberry Wellness lifestyle expert, and you have an incredible adventure ahead of you
5. Digital Graffiti 2021 in Alys Beach, Florida
May 12-14, 2021
I have never had the pleasure of attending this event, but had friends go who raved about it and always wanted to make the trek. It seems like one of the most can’t miss outdoor 2021 spring events.
The town of Alys Beach is excited about the reimagined Digital Graffiti 2021. It will still be immersive, but it will be a drive-through experience this year. The whole shebang is a one-of-a-kind projection art festival where “artists from across the globe use the latest digital technologies to project their original works onto the iconic white walls of Alys Beach.”
Tickets will not be sold at the door, so grab them ahead of time on the site.
